This review from April last year affirms what MheAd just wrote.. 64-bits just aren't worth the trouble for day-to-day tasks just yet.

And in nearly a year, certainly no new development could possibly have taken place. Which is strange. My Photoshop certainly works a bit faster than it used to when operating on +100mb files. You know; for some of us, day-to-day tasks isn't playing Crysis Tongue

Why would you want WinXP 64bit anyway, or any 64-bit instance of any OS for that matter?
I just don't understand...Desktop machines are simply not ready for 64bit or maybe I should put it other way around - 64-bit OS'es are not ready for desktop machines.

Mainly because I have 4GB of RAM, plus a 512MB graphics card, and Windows XP 32 bit just can't address it.
I may even opt to use Vista 64 bit instead of XP, but not too sure yet... I still prefer the feel of XP, but can use Vista quite readily too..

Which opens up a new question - why do you need 4GB just yet??? 2GB is enough.

MheAd -- Yes, yes it is. Give me a good reason against it.

Lets put some crarification on the 64-bit OS thing.

XP x64 -- Do NOT touch!
Vista64 -- Acceptable and actually recommended if I can ever recommend a Vista (lol!).
Server 2007 x64 -- Makes for interesting workstation but works fine with tinkering to get the quirks out.
Linux x64 -- Absolutely!

A year in computing isn't really that long a timeframe, unless you count bloatware. Enterprise apps would be silly not to take advantage of 64-bit and most current video/audio codecs use 64-bit and multithreading to make life easier for people who deal with resource-hungry multimedia production. Hell XP was first introduced in 2001 and it's based on the ancient NT core. Well at any rate if you want to go with 4+ gigs of RAM a 64-bit OS is the only viable option anyway Tongue XP 64-bit however should not be a consideration as Mikhail pointed out above

Actually, I'm rather impressed with how easy it is getting updates etc. for my Vista x64 - once developers got over their initial "lol wut" at MS producing something that... works.
