Paramount today announced the new Star Trek film is scheduled for release on Christmas Day 2008. The studio also confirmed the film will be directed by J. J. Abrams, who said the film will 'embrace and respect' Trek canon, but will also 'chart its own course.' Also today, rumors are out claiming Matt Damon, Adrien Brody and Gary Sinise will play Kirk, Spock, and Scotty, respectively.

Talk about flogging a dead horse. I'm going to be among the first to watch it of course. Witnessing the decline of space opera over the past decade was certainly unpleasant Sad

It might have a chance, as long as it doesn't include like the borg or Q in it then it might stand some chance, the actors that are playing Kirk , spock and scotty are good actors.  like i said, as long as they fuq up like Enterprise did

wouldnt it make more sense to make a film based on 'enterprise' (the series) rather than recasting the original series?

Why would they make a movie of a failure of a show? Enterprise is the first of the series to ever be canceled... DS9 and Voyager would be more candidate for a movie then enterprise would..

these producers/writers whoever keep on wanting to go backwards in time , I liked the 29th century design they did in voyager and the TNG movies. Maybe could do a romulan or klingon series, even a ferengi perspective, that would be more interesting then seeing the past IMO

I didn't think Enterprise was that bad, it wasn't meant to be just like the others. Saying that, I didn't watch it very much, it was never on at the right time.

Yeah I didnt mind Enterprise either.

Next Generation is my favourite. Cant stand Deep Space Nine and Voyager though.

Love pretty much all the Star Trek movies thus far, but especially First Contact - thats almost a good movie in its own right.

Aww Voyager is so classy, I watched so much of that after I left Uni. I always laughed when Janeway got it on, that was just hillarious. DS9 wasn't a bit meh, the whole thing about that man being a prophet or whatever didn't really work.  Next Gen, Jean Luc has no faults, except maybe the perma-tan from the early days.

DS 9 was one of my favourites, but I also liked Voyager. But then, I'm not really old enough to have watched the original series, and I caught the backend of TNG (although I have watched quite a few of them and enjoyed them).

Im not much of a Star Trek geek, it's on Sky One a lot of the time (all the varieties) and Sci-Fi (Original+Films), and I usually just flick it over unless I catch it from the beginning.

Yeah I'm like that, I don't often commit time to Trek.  I used to watch Next Gen all the time when it was on the BBC, and then I got hooked on Voyager when it was on, I watched that religiously, but I never saw the end!  I've never watched the original either, I'm too young to appreciate it, its just so dated.
DS9, I should like it, but the characters weren't that good, my favourite was the Ferenghi.

I would hate to meet the bitter person who wishes it to fail.
