He is the party, I see.
So how do you become the party and get to wear the funky hat?
well, those who are getting married ask a person they know that will be suitable for that "roll" if he would like to be a "chayo" on their wedding celebration; it can be a cousin or a friend... chayo can borrow his clothes if he doesn't have it, but some of the people have their own traditional clothes that they use in such occasions (hat included); sometimes chayo wears normal, modern clothes, and only wears maybe a traditional towel or hat... I like Slavonian traditional clothes and I wear it not only in this occasion, but also in other different occasions, like people wear normal clothes, such as when going to church on sundays or on some church holidays, on receptions, other happenings...

I always thought *you* were from Rijeka - thus my question. All this Rijeka-chicks talk makes me thinking of: "Riječke najbolje su čke, čke Vole svoje dečke I daju meni pičke pičke, čke" So anyway, let me refrase the question - do wherever-you-come-from-chicks get of on your outfit?

LOL I doubt I've ever even mentioned Rijeka in all these years being here... thus I don't know how you connected me with it; I'm Slavonian, from Donji Miholjac, now working and living in Djakovo; and I lived in Osijek few years, when I was on college and to answer your question - some chicks do, some not

I must have mixed up Osijek with Rijeka. They do share 4 letters in the middle of the name, after all. Djakovo is a nice town. I was placed in refugee camp in Gasinci, outside Djakovo. My memories of Djakovo is during wartime, so I guess much changed since then.

yeah, you're right, Djakovo has much changed since then... if there's any way you could come one day to see how Djakovo looks today, I'll gladly be your host! and, the best time to come to Djakovo is the last week of June/first week of July, 'cause it's the time of many happenings, concerts, etc.

Nah...it's too small. It's beautiful small-town but too small for me to do anything there. I get crazy very fast in towns that you can take a walk through in 5 minutes Also, despite its beauty, I must say that there wasn't much hospitality I experienced in Djakovo. I must unfortunately admit that I've seen more anti-Bosnian/Muslim graffiti in Djakovo in 1994 than in Serb-occupied Banja Luka where I come from, which is highly odd considering the fact that this was Croatia and not some Herzegovina shithole... odd indeed. Who's in charge in Djakovo now? HDZ or SDP?

SDP is in charge... and I doubt you'd find same situation now, 'cause everything that's anti in Djakovo now are antichrists and anti-church people, very most of them under 16, not even knowing what they're anti about... and I'm surprised to hear (for the first time) that there was such a situation in Djakovo when you were here, not to mention the fact that there are many Bosnian people who stayed in Djakovo after the war, and live here today, and I know lots of them... but, I know, as you do, that there are always some fools (everywhere) who don't express the opinion of majority , but always find some oportunity to express themselves publicly, so...
