Am I the only one who hates colourful combats?
Like when two characters fight with their swords or something, and there's a ton of "colourful blasts" and silly "whooshes" all over.
Not just in fights though... in driving games too sometimes.

I've noticed that it's mostly done in asian games.
I don't like it.
I prefer when they keep at least semi-realistic.

It's interesting  you said Asian games, since I've seldom played any non-Japanese titles from the Far East (but I for one adore Asian filmmaking). As for the contact sparks and effects I find them to be just plain silly in several titles. Tekken for example. But some developers have vowed to stick to reality in their games (and yet they ruin it by including bizarre effects like the ricochet in Virtua Fighter). It's probably got to do with the anime style involved when designing the game's concept art and in-game graphics. But still it's good to have a choice when it comes to games.. Imagine if every game implemented the Havok physics engine (not that I'm saying they shouldn't develop better physics modules, for the sake of children at least!) and pixel-perfect blood and gore.. I wouldn't want to be anywhere near the game industry if that day arrives. If anything western developers ought to diversify more.

PS - On a sidenote I find it worrying they've reworked the cute little Bomberman and made him into a cyborg mutant soldier or something. Is Japan's mild pacifist stance turning "Xtreme"? Are they selling out? I do enjoy the occasional virtual carnage (and to lesser extent with each passing year), but this Halo culture is just plain annoying.

They also like to make characters in their games have stupidly big swords.

Tongue Well it's not always that the games themselves are bad.
Just those annoying flashings and colours.

Actually, that was fine, seeing as the show itself is all anime style.

What I meant was stuff like in Jade Empire:

Also, this is a cute video (only little silly kabooms):
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/gKlm1HPIAbM&rel=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/gKlm1HPIAbM&rel=1</a>

I tried the PC Version of Devil May Cry 3, but it was terribly converted. It seemed like a funny game to play (with Dante, the all arrogant hero), but I just couldn't do it. I had trouble even navigating through the menus because of the poor controls. (Which could only be partially adjusted, and even then, there were bugs)
So I gave up.

I never liked DMC myself. Dante's attitude was just too much. The storyline didn't get me interested either. Onimusha 3 on the other hand was a better experience (and yes the PC port sucks too)

They made Dante overly arrogant, which what made it funny.

Like when you meet a Cerebru kind of huge creature - He starts teasing him, and mocking him.
err... you do realize he's like 50 times your size, right?

Tongue
That's about where I stopped cause the controls annoyed me.
