The thread title is clear - PC games only. And only those that have single player options. So, no multiplayer-only games.
Vote and elaborate, lets hear what you have to say! We can make quite a discussion (just remember the last year)...
NOTE: You can vote for more than one game!

I voted for far cry , mainly as i havent played some of them , and also as half life 2 would be clear winner , but steam pissed me off , so it gets 35% deducted straight away doom 3 also was a contender but running around in the dark getting ripped by things i cant see wasnt all that much fun I havent played total war yet ill bet thats good far cry kept me hooked , had good graphics and was fun to play so its my winner

So, no multiplayer-only games. WoW has so many Quest it can be played as a Single player game. They designed it so you could single player all the way to level 60. Which is what I intend to do.... but I understand. Hmmm very tough.. i would like to vote for Half Life 2 but that would be bad because I havnt played it yet... I may have to turn to the Dark side and vote for Warriors Within because it really is the best game I can see up their. :/

Awww Bash!! Where's Call of Duty, United Offense??! Don't tell me no expansions! Waiting with my votes to see your, and perhaps others reaction, but they will probably be HL2, V:Bloodlines and Codename: Panzers. Far Cry was pretty cool too, but only played the demo of it yet, lol, so no. There are a few other notables, but I'll save that for later..

The best of this list, is most definetely Half Life 2. It was everything I expected, wanted, and more. Best FPS in years, maybe the best I've ever played. Go Half Life 2.
Next is Pirates!, for it's great replayability. Prince of Persia comes in third.
- But what I consider the best game of 2004, isn't on this list. A game I only played once, and can't play again, just because it's so damn good. The game was just SO DAMN GOOD, that I had to delete it.
Silent Hill 4. I completely shat my pants playing that game, and I'll never touch it again. There were times that I jumped away from my computer and threw the headphones in the corner of my room. I just couldn't play with the lights out anymore. Just too damn freaky. Although Silent Hill 2 still is better gameplay-wise, Silent Hill 4 just completely knocks it down with its disturbing imagery, intense atmosphere, and creepy sounds.
It was the best game this year, and I advise you to steer clear from it, if you value your sanity.

I voted for Doom 3 because I haven't played many of the others. Doom 3 sure was great and scary in a very good way.

No, no expansions I agree that United Offensive was great, but come on - it would be a shame to have an expansion as the game of the year! Silent Hill 4... Now that's a game that got various reviews. Some loved it, some hated it. I see that Metacritic has an average score of 75 for it. Not bad, maybe even good enough for the award... Nah, I'll leave the list as it is

Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines, Half-Life 2, Pirates and Far Cry.
My fave of those though has got to be Far Cry. It really gave me a Dr. Moreau feeling. One of the first games I've played where I really loved the transition from normal human enemy to mutant/alien/whatever enemy.
Pirates is mostly because it recaptured the spirit of the old games and the general Aaarrr feeling.
HL2 has great gameplay but I don't think that it's the best FPS ever. But still one of the best straight FPS' to come out in the last couple of years.
Finally I've got Bloodlines, which I enjoyed, more or less a Vampire version of Deus Ex. Not quite as good as it's forerunner, and I had some wish that it would include you more in the politics of vampires instead of just being a pawn. Nonetheless it's a solid game if you ignore the graphics glitches and one nasty game-crashing bug, that fortunately can be avoided.

MR, why don't you come over some time so I can show you the Real Vampire: The Masquerade Or Vampire the Requiem might be more interesting. Other than that, Codename Panzers is clearly this years best RTS. No, not Rome, hehe.

Guess why I placed it on the list, much a surprise for the most I still haven't voted. I know one thing - Half Life 2, no matter how great it is (and it is GREAT) will not get my vote. Fuc*BEEP* Steam...

I'll vote for my top 3 of this year. Although I think I only got about 5 new games in 2004, which considering how I used to blow fortunes on them before is pretty sad :/ Anyway... Sid Meier's Pirates!
- Half-Life 2
- The Sims 2
I won't vote for games I haven't played, else Rome might have been up there instead of Sims. I'll have to get hold of that next year.
