Hehehe it is addictive. But so far it becomes boring. That's the reason I ask in the General discussion thread.  :rolleyes

Another thing that I don't like in the game is that we can not buy a ship. Specially big ship. The only we can have one, is to hijack it in the sea.

That bothered me in the original. I had several hundred thousand gold, and still had to run away at the sight of a pirate war galleon, because _my_ biggest ship was a lowly frigate.

Yep. That also what I encountered in the old version. But my current situation is thinking of getting more huge ship (Flag Galleon, War Galleon, etc) ASAP to gain more soldiers in order to attacks cities without having to hijack one in the sea. In which there is no way I can do that in this new version.  :rolleyes

I never sail with Galleons, they're too slow for my taste. I just capture and sell them all. I love Sloops, they can be real pain in the ass of any Galleon because of their speed.

I do, however, keep and use Frigates. They are better than the best Galleon! What do you mean "lowly" Frigate? Infidel! Tongue

But the galleons are so much more powerful! (even if the frigates are amongst the best vessels in the game)

And I just fired up the old one, which works perfect in DosBox (to my amazement). YAY

I prefer capturing them anyway, what's the point in sinking enemy ships if you don't gain anything? Wink

Agreed. But... It was an accident! I just had a _lot_ of guns, and had sold all my ships except one war galleon, and came across an English frigate... And I was thinking "hey, I could need some new ships, all things considered, of a reasonable size, so I can carry more loot", since I was headed for the Spanish Main, what with Panama and all right ahead... So I attacked, even though I usually stick to the Spanish only... And it kinda... exploded.

BTW... You CAN attack towns. You just have to press space when sailing past them. Your cannons will fire at the town, decreasing its soldier strength.. As soon as you got rid of the soldiers, you can march into town and have a swordfight on top of a fort.

I have done this once, but haven't been able to do it a second time, cause it takes a while to get rid of all the soldiers...

Oh, and anyone here managed to get his hands on a "ship of the line"? It's really rare, but I managed to get my hands on a Spanish one.. All the spaniards turned on me like crazy though.. Really went to war after getting that ship. Cheesy

"Ship of the line" was never present in old Pirates! However, it is a PRIZE ship in new Pir and I never saw it! I hear it is like a Royal Frigate, a huge battleship with great maneuvering ability. And the pirate-o-pedia states that if you ever capture one, you will have that nation on your back until the rest of the game. They velue them THAT much!
