Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

But isn't that part of the horror fun? Constantly having to switch between flashlight and weapon? In Silent Hill, everytime I turn off the lamp, I can feel shivers running down my spine, cause I can't see anymore.. It's scary that way.... Then again.. After switching it for the gazillionth time, it might be annoying, yeah =P

Erm, so you duct tape together couple of CPU's and few Video cards and can run Doom 3 at full graphical settings enabled???

What would they think of next?

Under the crazy presumption that a roll of duct tape has to exist somewhere on the Mars facility, the Duct Tape mod allows you to do the obvious, and stick a flashlight onto to your machinegun.

hahaha. It's funny because it's true.

I'm running the 4.9 beta drivers on my Radeon 9800 PRO, and they work fine. Even increased performance a smidge.

And holy crap, I wish I had that duct tape earlier. I'm right at the end of the game now, I'm afraid. Heh.

Beaten. Bit of a pushover for a final boss.

Anyone notice the easter egg on the last level?

SPOILERS:

There's a brick with id's name on it. If you push it, a passage opens up with the final PDA. It gives you access to all areas and has messages from a few dozen of the people behind the game. Screenshot: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v40/Guybrush123/D3EasterEgg.jpg[\/size][\/color]

I've got it, thanks to bittorrent..Just couldn't wait for the mail to arrive =P

It's scary, that's for sure. I just had my first run-in with the pinky demon, and it really scared me. He came down from the walkway, and started bashing on the door. Freaky.

Unfortunately, I found that after the first few hours, the scares peter out. There are still a few here and there... But for the most part, it isn't all that frightening.

"Oh, an armor pick up in the middle of nowhere."
*sigh*
*picks it up and turns around expectantly*
*monster comes out of the wall*
*bang, hiss, bang*
*rolls eyes*

They could have been a little more subtle. Ah well. After Hell things pick up a bit, but never truly recover.

Yeah, I noticed that too. Most of the monster placings are predictable as hell. I haven't been to hell yet, I quit the game as soon as I saw people hanging from spiderwebs. I hate spiders. I hate them that much, that I gotta go collect lots of courage before I continue. When I was 12 years old, I played the game called 'Arachnaphobia', from the movie, and had nightmares about it. When I reached the final enemy in that game, the queen spider, I shut down the pc out of nervousness. =\

I haven't gotten it yet, but I can't wait. According to HardOCP, I'll be able to play it at high quality with nice performance, 1024x768. Though I had expected no less.

All my specs are in Tech Help, for some reason, but here goes. And I think I'll have a ball with this game:

AMD A64 3000+ CPU
MSI K8T800-based mobo
MSI Radeon 9800XT 128mb
1gb DDR CL2.5 PC2700 (effectively)
Both HDD's 7200rpm, 8mb cahce
Creative SB Audigy with Sennheiser headset plugged in
The previously mentioned Sony 24" wide monitor Tongue

A) The level design leaves something to be desired. It's not nearly as bland as Halo in that regard, but it could use some variety.
B) The game is scary as hell for the first few hours, and then becomes predictable. You might get a cheap scare every once in a while from something being right in your face when you open a door, but otherwise it's not all that frightening.
C) Not being able to hold a flashlight and a gun at the same time is understandable for gameplay reasons, but it doesn't make any damn sense. If they have the technology to create portals to hell, they should be able to manage to duct-tape a flashlight to a gun.
D) Despite the amazing graphical technology behind Doom 3, the physics stink. Few things are interactive or destructible, and they all seem to weigh about as much as a piece of styrofoam. They float and bounce around like they're weightless.

a) Agreed
b) Play at night with lights turned off and with the volume up and with 5.1 surround (if you don't already)
c) Dude, it's just a matter of configuring your keys properly. Since Doom 3 has no alt-fire I have the flash-light on my right-mouse-button so you can jump between the flash light and your gun in a fraction of a second.
d) All I care about is ragdoll stuff and Doom 3 does that very well. Sure, kicking around shit isn't very well done but who needs that anyway. Although I have to admit that how Max Payne 2 used the Havoc engine was pretty impressive.

I play @ 1280x1024 on "high" which is neat and at that resolution, you don't need anti-aliasing (which probably would slow it down too much anyway).

A tip for everbody: if Doom 3 performs poorly on your PC and you want to update your PC, go for a better 3D card rather than a faster CPU. A friend of mine has an AMD Athlon 3000+ with 1 gig of RAM and a Radeon 9000 and the game ran at around 18 FPS @ 640x480 with medium quality and was absolutely unplayable at anything highter than 640x480. I told him to update his 3D card, he bought a 9600XT and the game now runs @ 45 FPS on 1024x768 with "high" quality.
I'm pretty sure Doom 3 will run fine on any ~2 Ghz PC with 512 MB RAM provided that you have a good 3D card.
