This game has now cost me a few days of absence in the web... It`s bloody awesome, gotta buy it when it reaches our shores. The part is that my pretty low rig runs it! Not on high detail or anything but it runs Athon XP 2800+ Barton 512 Mb 400DDR Radeon 9200 64Mb And I get 640*480 with low detail. It still looks fabulous, can`t wait to get my hands on a new video card!!!!!

i've got it running on my AMD 2400+, 512 DDR RAM, 9600PRO on medium and it looks great and performance is awesome.
i cranked up the resolution to 1152xwhatever and there's a TINY bit of slowdown on the busy areas, but overall i'm really happy with the performance.
it's a great game too! it gets a bit annoying being in the same area for so long though, all the levels look the same. but i remember reading that the last few levels are in hell; that should be VEEEEERY interesting to say the least.

Okay, I will get my hands on this game pretty soon, but what I'm wondering about is something that none of you guys have pointed out so far - the sound! How IS the sound? If I'm not mistaken, everything is made by one of my favorite musicians, front man (AND the brain) of Nine Inch Nails, Trent Reznor. Did he do a good job? He even made title theme + in-game ambient sounds for the first QUAKE game and it sounded cool. Ever since QUAKE, he has been a devoted fan of ID Software's games so he decided to make music for DOOM III as well, so....tell me about it...

The only music in Doom 3 takes place during the opening, and during the credits. Otherwise the game is silent, save for the clangs of machinery and the hisses of steam.
Anyway, I like Doom 3 a lot, but it has its fair share of problems.
A) The level design leaves something to be desired. It's not nearly as bland as Halo in that regard, but it could use some variety. B) The game is scary as hell for the first few hours, and then becomes predictable. You might get a cheap scare every once in a while from something being right in your face when you open a door, but otherwise it's not all that frightening. C) Not being able to hold a flashlight and a gun at the same time is understandable for gameplay reasons, but it doesn't make any damn sense. If they have the technology to create portals to hell, they should be able to manage to duct-tape a flashlight to a gun. D) Despite the amazing graphical technology behind Doom 3, the physics stink. Few things are interactive or destructible, and they all seem to weigh about as much as a piece of styrofoam. They float and bounce around like they're weightless.
That being said, I still really like the game. It's a fun, albeit fairly generic shooter that has a somewhat interesting plot to follow. While nothing original, the voice acting is very good for the most part, and the few branching paths in-game keep things fresh and interesting.

Ever since QUAKE, he has been a devoted fan of ID Software's games so he decided to make music for DOOM III as well, so....tell me about it... Trent has made a wonderful job. There`s not a lot of music in the game so far, but the sfx you have to hear for yourself. And if you have good speakers, you`ll bow to mr. Reznor once again. The awesome job he did with Quake is nothing compared to this, Then again, to the discussion about having to run through the same environments over again. I really don`t care. The whole complex is very well designed and by running through the station gives you a very deep immersion of "being there". Many people have said that the game has some elements of Halo. True, but in Halo the same level repeated 5 times in a row and some levels you had to play twice and even backtrack them through the end. I felt that a bit unnecessary, whereas in Doom there is a damn good reason given for repeating. And the repeating is not tedious or "over-the-line". The sequels to Halo and Half-Life have to do a damn good job if they want to top Doom. Which I´m sure of that they will :laugh

Actually, Chris Vrenna, ex-member of NIN did the music.. Trent Reznor backed out early, from what I read.. EDIT: http://www.mp3.com/story/feature_doom.html

I know.. DOuble post.. I apologize... But this could prove useful.. tried this and Im now runnig at 1280x1024 compared to 800x600 at the same settings.
"As all of you who allready have this game recognized the game is very slow even on new Computers.
I found out the reason for this and the solution to fix this problem.
As you already know after installation the game consits only of the doom3.exe and some .PK4 files. Those PK4 files includes the entire game (sounds, videos, textures etc.) in high compressed form.
Normally those files were decompresse during the game.
But this exactly is the problem. Even new CPUs are not able to decompress those files while running the game with good peformance and therfore the game runs very **** also on new computers. I don't know if the develpers of ID-Soft was just too stupid to think about this or if they have an agreement with some hardware manufacturing firms.
How to get around this problem:
It is very simple. Go to your Doom 3 installation directoy and get inside the folder "Base". There are some .PK4 files you have to open each of them with WinRAR 3.3 and extract their entire contents to the Base dir in you Doom 3 installation folder (replace all files if they are any duplicates). Now you have to delete all .PK4 files in the Base folder to prevent the game to use those compressed files agian.
Now the game starts and runs mutch faster!!! In your DOOM 3 directory, find "DoomConfig.cfg" (x:\Program Files\Doom 3\base). Open DoomConfig.cfg in Notepad.
Find the line:
seta image_cacheMegs "32"
I changed 32 to 96. (can also be changed to 128 or 256)
I got a nice boost in performance. I dunno if the tweak worked or not (maybe my machine did something wierd, have no clue), so I'm just seeing if this works for others as well, or if a different setting works better than others. I've read reports about people boosting performance enormously with these tweaks..

HAH! :eek So he did! Well, I must have been sleeping for past two years.
When did Trent actually back out from the project? I remember as early as one year ago watching a video-clip with Trent Reznor interview where he was working fully with DOOM III music.

Oh, just so you guys know: if you own a newer ATI card and want to play Doom 3 on it, there is experimental Catalyst 4.9 which boosts Doom 3 performance on ATI cards....
Although i've seen reports that they are inoperable on Radeon 9800 Pro.

=( Great, I've got an 9800 Pro. Just my luck. You buy a bloody expensive piece of equipment espescially for doom 3 and halflife 2, and it doesn't work right. =\
