I want to try it first before I upgrade, if the thing dont run well on medium setting then its time for upgrading. What system do you have now again? Wasn't it an Athlon 2000+ with Radeon 9600PRO or something?

So what? Only top-of-the-line, I say, to push the level of detail\resolution to its very peak Ah, underwear. Yes. Unexpected expenses, that. I will after all need a few bags, I suspect.

Yep. If I could run Farcry on medium to high settings then this game should be no problem. Hell, Doom 3 has an Ultra setting for 512 mb cards, theres no way you can upgrade enough, and I was juist thinking getting a new proccesor or maybe more memory.

Perhaps the guys at Id thought that this way when you buy your next supercomputer in the year 2010, you`d be still picking up your copy of Doom III just to try out your new system. As the Pc-Gamer review said, the computer to run D3 in 1600rez with max detail doesn`t still exist. Weird. :rolleyes

Hrm. I've been hearing things about ATI cards lately, causing monitor burnouts 'cause of buggered drivers. Ofc ATI'll never admit to this, ever, even if it's true, but that's what they say. Cata 3.8 or so.

...I doubt very much a driver would be released that could burnout a monitor. That would probably show up really fast at the testing.

This you may find both interesting and useful. If you go to this link , you will get pretty good picture about how low/high detail you may set on your computer. After been reading this, I'm almost 100% sure that my Athlon 2000+ with GF5900 (after 1GB RAM upgrade) will be able to run this baby very good on medium quality, but even on high quality (on lower resolutions and also probably considerably lower FPS). Please note that the game was apparently well optimized for all kinds of graphic adapters and chipsets. Even minimal quality setting will give you pleasant playing experience (so Bashy, don't worry, you'll be doing just fine with your ATI 8500 card ). Turning the AA on doesn't make much sense, according the game developers, because of (most often) dark areas that are featured in the game. Visually AA won't do much improvement. It will only lower the speed of your system when turned on, so turn it off and boost AF instead (on mid-range and high-end cards) cause that way you will get better quality in some visual effects. Also note that at the moment there isn't any CPU/graphics adapter being able to run the game in Ultra mode! I've been reading about yet-to-be-released graphics cards and minimum of 2GB dual-channel RAM. :rolleyes

I just read the entire thing, and now I'm even more thrilled. Even the shatty system I had 2 years ago can play this game. I simple love the way these people keep telling us that even the lowest settings will deliver a good Doom3 experience. (expect shadows have to stay on, duh) When the thing comes in the mail, I'll probably spend about an hour tweaking the thing, until I've gotten the most out of it, with an acceptable framerate (and it has to be a lot for me to be acceptable) Still a while before it gets here though.. Over here in Holland it'll be about August 11th before it's released =( I'm soooo tempted to download it with Bittorrent when it's released in the US, but I suppose I'll wait. Anyone know of any new reviews that came out lately?
